Mostly dithered between flash cards and trying to get my computer to boot up this morning. Two hours last night and today combined. (Taken with instagram)
My wineglass stained magenta with Lacrima di Morro d’Alba. Great lunch at Redd Wood in Yountville today.
I don’t know why, but I always like to see the hawks soaring above the vineyards. This could have been a vulture, I think. Seavey Vineyards.
Noticed my tasting glass at the end of an event. Red wine stains on outside, little bit of white wine on the inside. Large tastings are just a little bit sloppy, I guess. I am slowly making my peace with the communal spit bucket, too.
My standard wine tasting shirt. My wife has started to make fun of me, but I like having a special shirt just for going to tastings.
Tenuta Sant’Antonio offered an instructive tasting of Valpolicella, Ripasso, Amarone, and single vineyard Amarone. Selvapiana’s Chianti Ruffina very good for the price. Don’t know much about Vin Santo, but theirs was very good. Saracco Moscato Di Asti was maybe my favorite wine, and from a Denominazione I rarely take seriously. My bad there as I have been missing out. Polizano “Asinone” very good. Textbook stuff, I think, no tricks. I felt I was getting similarly clear and hands off examples of Marchesi Di Gresy’s Dolcetto and Barbera, both enjoyable in their own ways. Inama’s Soave was ripe and treated with oak, and in the end I prefer Pieropan. Similar feelings on Roero Arneis between Giacosa Fratelli and Vietti, with the brothers coming out ahead, but it is a much closer contest. Didn’t get to taste Vietti’s single vineyard offerings, but thought their Nebbiolo were consistent. Boroli’s Nebbiolos were also good. I thanked the hosts at RN74 for hosting us. I learned a lot.
